There are moments in medicine that stay with you. Not because of complexity or accolades, but because they quietly remind you why you chose this profession in the first place.
Recently, a patient chose to write a letter to a local newspaper expressing gratitude for the care he received. It was published without my knowledge or involvement. When I came across it, I felt a deep sense of humility rather than pride.
Medicine is rarely about one person. Behind every outcome is a team. Nurses who provide constant care, trainees who show up eager to learn, colleagues who offer support, and systems that hold everything together during difficult moments. I had the privilege of working alongside an extraordinary group of professionals at Sale Hospital, and this reflection belongs to them as much as it does to me.
What struck me most was not the mention of my name, but the reminder that patients place immense trust in us during the most vulnerable periods of their lives. That trust is a responsibility I never take lightly.
As the year draws to a close, this moment has stayed with me. Not as an achievement, but as a reminder. That compassion, teamwork, and presence matter just as much as technical skill.
I remain grateful for the privilege of caring for patients and for the colleagues who make that work possible every day.
